South America, sharks and surprise…


I’ve been advised that a great way to start a blog is with an interesting fact, so did you know that vending machines kill 4 times as many people each year as sharks? You’ve got to wonder just how much someone needs that Snickers to risk their life getting it.

It’s a pleasure to be writing this, my first blog post for Best Minds, from an old oak desk in my new office (aka the dining room). As I joined almost 2 months ago, I thought it was about time I introduced myself. I understand that blog readers typically only get through 18% of a post, so I shan’t take long, but to begin with I’ll ask you all a question: What is Scotland’s national animal? Read on to find out the answer (hint: it’s probably not what you think).

I’ve joined Best Minds at an exciting time. We’ve just returned from the European Infusionsoft Partner Growth Conference in Spain where we learned some great lessons from a fantastic group of speakers, including Eric Edmeades with some terrific ideas about inception marketing. Mish and I were also invited to talk about our Digital Marketing Maturity Model (DM3) and were delighted to get so much positive feedback – watch this space for more updates on that soon. As someone with a corporate background, I was particularly taken with the willingness everyone showed to collaborate and connect both during and after the conference, which has only reinforced my enthusiasm for taking this next step.

To share a little about me, I’ve worked for the best part of the last 20 years for some of the world’s leading consulting, technology and digital marketing organisations, including Adobe, Experian, SmartFocus, Frost & Sullivan and Sage. This – I hope – has armed me with a wealth of knowledge and skills that I’m now delighted to bring to this new adventure and help us realise our goal of transforming 100 businesses through the power of digital marketing and automation by 2020. I am a big sports fan, enjoy my music (for a time I was in charge of radio output at Great Ormond Street!) and live very happily in London with my wife. I also love to travel and several years ago spent 6 months backpacking solo in South America which I am sure played a big part in my decision to take my first steps as an entrepreneur.
